De jongste vulkaan op het Boheemse grondgebied was 850 000 jaar geleden actief. Er werd onderzoek naar verricht in de 19de eeuw door geoloog Neptunist-Plutonist-Vulcanist .
Er volgde een debat was tussen wetenschappers. Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, koos de kant van de Neptunists en bezocht Komorni Hurka meerdere malen. Een speciale 300 m lange tunnel werd gegraven op de kosten van de Tsjechische wetenschapper Caspar Maria graaf van Sternberg in het midden van de heuvel om meer te weten te komen over de structuur van deze vulkaan Boven de ingang van de tunnel werd een platform geplaatst met het opschrift: "Goethe DEM ERFORSCHER DES KAMMERBÜHLS
Uiteindelijk bleek het niet meer te zijn dan een wandeling van een kwartier rond deze site, met geen spectaculaire dingen te ontdekken, wel interessant voor geinteresseerden voor geologie. Wel mooi gelegen.
