This place was dated -I felt like time stoped in late '80, dirty - we had huuuuge cacroaches in our room. The AC was barely working. Food was bad unless you rice and beans lover. I came back with food poisoning.

I just got home from my trip to Riu Mambo and this was my second time. Things have changed very fast. Instead of being able to go to the restaurant last time we could only get hamburgers or salads in the snackbar at lunch. The entertainment team changed completely. No wonder they all are paid very poorly but all the new entertainers didn't know what to do at all exept for chasing english or canadian girls cos those countries are still open if you marry a girl from there. No it has nothing to do with love, they simply wanna get away from a miserable situation. Sorry girls. The miniclub was very good. Especially the dutch girl Amber who was helping out or working there, I am not sure of that but she was wonderfull with the little ones. During the rain there was no animation at all. The rooms were poor and the beds very hard. We had two cockroaches in our room but that is not very rare in the tropics. I have seen far better hotels,why is this one is so expensive and offers so little?

Looks nice and is all-inclusive, but the customer service is the worst that I've ever seen in my life. We stayed in Hotel Riu Bachata and the customer service folks looked shocked everytime they were expected to actually help out with something. The workers there seemed like they were there more for their own party when everybody went to sleep. For a family adventure it might be nice (lots of buffets and the like). For the serious traveller avoid it like the plague. Such a shame, because the DR has great customer service in general. They tried to stick my boss and I in a room with two double beds shoved together. We were there to scout out the state of tourism in that part of the island to procure large investors and Don Juan in Boca Chica made them look like ametuers (not that I'm recommending Boca Chica to anyone). Don't know what happened there in Hotel Riu but it makes the whole island look real bad...

Everything was fine - clean hotel - nice room - friendly staff - very good on hygiene , eg hand disinfectant entering dining room and leaving toilets - right on beach with plenety of beds+mattresses with good shade.

it is a pity they don't have shuttle transport to airport - taxi was $50.00 one way - $40.00 back booked with hotel.

The pool should have been a bit cleaner. It had a lot of flies in it, at the end of the day they didn't do anything about it, but they should though. The personnel was very friendly, tasty meals, a lot of variation, a lot of entertainment for all ages, good service, beautiful and well maintained park, within walking distance of the 2 parks next door, nice accommodation, everything was all-in, shopping street within walking distance, between 2 parks, internet and a very nice temperature!

We had a great vacation at a great hotel.

We were here from the 11th of May till the 25th of May 2008 and had 2 wonderful weeks here. We had a room with a view over the sea and the beach. The staff are very friendly and helpful, the room was cleaned well and the animation team was enthusiastic. And the beach is cleaned every day. The food is good and varied enough for 2 weeks, it is warm in the restaurant though. From the hotel you're able to go on nice and beautiful excursions. One of the cheapest reservation offices is/was a local organization. Disadvantage; Unfortunately the swimming pool isn't cleaned properly and simply is to dirty to swim in because of this. We once used a landing net in the evening and you could even see which part you had already done.

We had a great vacation here in Hotel Riu Mambo, very friendly staff and the food was perfect as well. Great place for everyone.

We went to Riu Mambo for 16 days in June 2007. It was great. Food, service, room, beach and swimming pool all very good. We booked an excursion with the travel agent because we heard that when you don't book via the travel agent you are not insured should anything happen. The animation team is relaxed, if you don't want to participate no problem, they won't bother you with it. We booked again for 2008 and are looking forward to it. Bring enough $. The dollar is worth so little that an $145 excursion costs 91 euro.

Just got back from 23 days vacation. Perfect. There are no clubs and restaurants nearby. But take a taxi or bus to Puerto Plata, taxi is $20 from the hotel. The hotel is superb, great fresh food and friendly people, especially Melvin. Animation is horrible, very loud and noisy. Shows were mediocre.
