Ideal for a peaceful but not isolated holiday
Hautefort is a beautiful village with a stunning castle on the hill. There is plenty to do in the area, but avoids the mass tourism. Definitely a lovely spot to visit on holiday.
The chateau is a must. Wonderful grounds and well tended gardens, as well as a hilltop setting with great views.
A lovely location in every respect
Beautiful scenery and lots of places to visit. Some great restaurants in the area too.
Hautefort Chateau is worth a visit but there's not much else to see in Hautefort!
Tourist information and a couple of small shops in town, with a larger supermarket just down the road.Quiet but nice for a gentle stroll. We didn't go into the chateau or its grounds, so unable to comment.
Breathtaking scenery and lots to see
Not to be missed is the impressive chateau which dominates Hautefort and the surrounding countryside. It's a pretty town, its buildings typical of the Dordogne architecture with wonderful mellow exposed stone walls and red tiled roofs. The restaurants serve delicious regional fare such as duck in various forms and cepes and their prices won't break the bank! Lots to see and do in the vicinity. One of the best caves in France is 10 minutes' drive away. Lots of walks to choose from and an excellent fishing lake.
A very nice place in the Dordogne. The lovely castle was the greatest!! Worth visiting.
