What a fantastic place for a family holiday - the scenery is spectacular, the volcanic lakes and beaches safe for children and the chateau itself is impressive. We particularly enjoyed being there for the 14th July Bastille Day festival which lasted all day with the streets full of peasants and nobility, a reenactment of the beheading of Marie Antoinette(!), and all culminating in a fabulous fireworks display from the castle battlements.
We found some super accommodation in the village throught the travel Agency Auvergne France Homes - www.afhomes.biz - it was well equipped, clean and very reasonably priced. We found this area much better value for money than other more well known areas of France and also much more beautiful and much less crowded.
