The room was really nice and it was clean too. The bathroom was spotless. We had plenty of clean towels. Breakfast was standard (the same as the rest of Paris). There were two metro stops within walking distance: Oberkampf and Republique.
The hotel is down a dark alley (which didn't smell very nice) but that really wasn't that much of a problem.
This place felt like a three star hotel to me.

We stayed in this hotel at the end of August. We stayed in a superior room that had been completely renovated (room number 18). The bathroom was clean (couldn't hang the shower up) and we had a separate toilet. We had a flat screen TV in our room which made it look modern. It's a short walk from rue de Malte to the Bastille. There are some nice restaurants there. Breakfast is continental and the croissants were really nice.

We had booked separate beds and ordered 2 ' superior' rooms and paid for (with airco). We had to complain and complain till finally we got 2 separate beds in one room. The other room we didn't bother with anymore after all this. We had no airco either, these rooms were far from 'superior' !! The weather was cool so we didn't complain about having no airco.
