I'm not going to tell a lot about the area here. I do want to say that Uzès is the perfect base for countless interersting daytrips. You can reach Avignon, Nimes, Orange, the Camargue, the Mont Ventoux, the Ardeche, Arles, St. Rémy the Provence, les Baux

Uzès is a pleasant Southern place with a lot to offer, la Fete du Vin at 15 August, certainly worth it.
