05/08/2012 Stayed in a Gite at the Chateau de Rochebonne in a village called St Just Luzac, part of the commune of Marenne. The Chateau and it's grounds are seperate to the Gites. These are set in their own enclosed very large garden with a large swimming pool. The Gites are furnished in the Charente Maritime way and have been sympathetically restored from old outbuildings of the Chateau. We found it very safe for the children with a small playground for the younger ones, table tennis, football and tennis available. It is close to some excellent beaches and 15 minutes drive away from Isle D'Oleron and the Cote Sauvage.

15/08/2007 Marennes itself is nice. By car you can easily get to other locations and you can eat deliciously in the villages around there. very fresh and not expensive. Without a car I would not return there.

08/08/2007 center dull and sober (rubbish bags on the street, shutters down, stench) at night after 9pm you cannot go for a cup of coffee or a drinky. restaurants at the port are nice.
