Reviews Campsite Les Ranchisses*****

18/08/2011 Have just come back following a stay at Les Ranchisses in a KeyCamp chalet and have mixed views about the site. It'is in a beautiful location and a 20 minute drive to the Ardeche river.
Unfortunatley, I was dissapointed as it's a split site with the KeyCamp chalets on the other side of the road with access to the main site via an underpass. Also, the chalets are on terraces so there's no real area to let kids play directly outside. My children are 8 and 5 so had to be accompanied if they wanted to play tennis or kick a ball around on the main site.
There are two main pools and an adult only pool within the spa. The pools are clean but basic. There are a couple of slides but these appear to have 'bolted' on outside the pool area as an afterthought and it's impossible to see the children on the slides from the poolside.
The restaurant was dissapointing too with meals being served upto 10 mins apart per person and poor quality food.
On +'ve note excellent location & staff friendly!

14/08/2011 The reception staff were friendly and helpful and showed us to our pitch. Basically our pitch was on the side of the entrance road approx 6 foot from the Pool complex wall. The noise of the pool and the screaming kids and splashing was enormous until the pool closed at 8pm. Peace at last! Only to be shattered by a live band who played until 2320 hrs. So loudly in fact that we couldn't hear ourselves speak in our folding camper & the sound from the speakers was distorted. Our pitch was right on the main entrance so that every camper would walk past us to the bar/shop etc. No privacy at all.
We walked around the site hoping to see a better pitch to be moved to, but frankly they are crowded in and give the impression of a shanty town. It appeared as if good-sized pitches had been divided up into two or three smaller pithces.
The sanitary block was adequately clean, but most toilet cubicles had run out of paper by 10pm. Noisy and overcrowded. We left after one night!

13/05/2012 We were at Les Ranchisses in July 2011, two adults in the 40´s & two children 6 and 8 years. Lovely camp site, very calm, nature in the surroundings is fantastic, open and friendly staff at camp site. Restaurent in the camp site is FANTASTIC. Restaurents in the local area are on gourmet level and quite reasonable prices. Toilet facilities were clean, but needs renewing. Irritating that there is no toilet seats. There are TOO many dutch people - you think you are in Holland. But the Dutch are nice poeple, so it is not too bad anyway.In Ardeche you find Dutch people all over, so if yuo want to explore the beautifull Ardeche area, you need to accept the Dutch :-) The owners of Les Ranchisses are also working in the restaurent and you find them around the site constantly smiling to you - nice! In the reception they speak a lot of languages very well. Room for improvement: Toilet seats, soap to wash hand, possible to have a caravan pitch overlooking river, and more pitches with water supply

25/07/2008 we booked this site last november, paying 100 euros as a deposit, and when we arrived thought facilites were wonderful, new wellness centre is amazing, best campsite restaurant we have experienced but what poor pitches. our pitch was dreadful, no doubt due to the recent building work, and should not have been in use.
when we walked around the site we were appalled that so many tents and caravans were in such close proximity, some were only the width of a person apart....and they were not families or friends!
sadly we left after a few days, as we were unable to sit outside our van or barbque.
this was our 20th year in france and feel that les ranchisses want the people in the wee houses, not genuine "campers" like our selves.
booking early, giving a very large deposit of 100 euros counted for nothing.....be aware

17/06/2008 A nice camping for both young and old. Nice entertainment for the young kids. And nice activities for the older kids. Every day there's something new. No camping that goes on until 4AM. The camping is beautifully located, at walking distance from a village and close to a beautiful area.

27/08/2007 Fine campsite. Spots are small for French standards but caravans themselves are perfectly equipped. Splendid location, excellent pools, perfect entertainment and many playing facilities for children. Highly recommended.

21/08/2007 Campsite that should have one star less than it has now: spots are good/reasonable, not enough sanitary during the high season, no warm water during the evenings. Bad experience in the restaurant: we had to wait two hours for unfresh fish. Reception frien

27/08/2007 This was the fourth time I was here, my first time was six years ago and something I noticed was that the bigger this campsite got, the worse it got. The sanitary facilities were incredibly bad this year, they were wiped clean by the personnel with toilet
