Vernoemd naar de nabijgelegen galg, ook "Würzburger Tor" genoemd, naar de straat richting Würzburg die onder de poort loopt. Bouwtijd: tot 1388. 438 meter boven de zee spiegel en gelegen op het hoogste punt van de stad. De stroomopwaarts gelegen Torsburg werd afgebroken in 1838. 1945 verwoest, na noodherstel weer herbouwd.

De Galgentor,een oude executieplaats, staat ook bekend als de Wurzburger Tor, omdat hier de weg naar Wurzburg begint
