I had wanted to go to Berlin for ages, but now that I've been, I can't say I'm keen to go back. Even though we went the day after Christmas, with all the fancy decorations still in place throughout the city, I found the city to be literally and figuratively cold, without any heart or soul. In London or Paris you know you're in a world city and top tourist destination, everywhere you look there's a gorgeous building or sight to be seen. In Berlin pretty things are few and far between, museums and attractions are incredibly expensive and the metro is the most difficult one I've had to navigate so far (out of 10+ cities). Maybe the atmosphere sucked because of the dull, grey weather, maybe it's Berlin's history that put a downer on it, I can't say for sure. I'm glad I went and saw the sights, the Reichstag Dome, Berlin Wall, Charlottenburg Palace and Holocaust Memorial are all well worth a visit, but Potsdamer Platz, Fernsehturm, Brandenburger Tor and Unter den Linden were disappointing.
