24/02/2011 This resort is small and personal, but still you have all the privacy you need. The personell is very friendly and hardworking, most of them work there for more than ten years so that is a good sign! The beach is quiet and safe, and very near to your cabana. You can hear the sea from you bed! :-) Swimmingpools, bar, reception and restaurant are more than OK and the service is great. They have a repeated guest of 70% in high season, that shows!

16/06/2008 What a paradise!!!! We completed our round trip here and it was great! Lovely spacious rooms with two personalised hammocks on your own porch, a very nice bathroom and a great bed. Completely in tropical atmosphere with reed roof and shutters. They also had excellent service and great and plenty food. They even arranged a silver screen for the EC. The bar was a bit quiet though. But now it's a quiet time. At 10 minutes walking distance from the centre. And you can even get a decent massage on the beach. The only minus could be the many Americans. But you run into them all over Playa del Carmen....

18/06/2008 This was our 4th time at Shangri-la Caribe, it will be demolished in 2009. We again enjoyed the hospitality and the atmosphere. It's a piece of paradise that will be lost forever. Such a shame that it needs to make way for a concrete, massive hotel. Tip: book before 1 April 2009 and then you'll stay at the most beautiful beach of Playa del Carmen, nice and quiet in your own cabin among the palm trees. MARVELLOUS!!

05/05/2008 Blimey! We have already been back from Mexico for week! And it was a really very beautiful hotel. Such peace and quiet and a beautiful room. We had a beach room at the front, in the 'aventura part', room 27 playa… really wonderful! The service is good, if you ask for anything they immediatley organise this and breakfast is wonderful. It is a 10 minute walk from the centre. Everything is kept clean well, even our windows were cleaned every day! every day clean towels and the bed was made once every three days. The bed was very big and unfortunately a very soft mattress but other people may find this pleasant. Few mosquitos but many Americans there, but you only encounter them at breakfast! For children there is no playground or a slide at the swimming pool… well, I don't have children of my own but I think that you would miss something like that though, if you have children.

29/05/2008 This is still a true paradise on earth. I could cry to know that this place will be demolished! It is really worth the visit and much nicer than those dull resorts. We had a very beautiful sea view (room once playa). We had dinner at 5th avenue because we found the atmosphere more cosy there. 1 long street full of shops, restaurants and bars.

It was a really nice park with nice bungalows.?The food here was great (morning, noon and night).?The private beach was lovely and quiet.?The village was nice and there were loads of fun things to do here. The pool was nice and we had a fantastic time here.?The staff were nice too. We stayed here in August and we were hit by hurricane Dean.?The staff took care of everything.

11/12/2007 Very authentic hotel-resort with a nice atmosphere. Absolutely recommendable for those who dispise Cancun and its hotelstrip. Unfortunately this resort is sold and is going to close medio 2008 and there will be a big concrete massive building in stead. Ssssssssssssssuch a waste!!
