Spending a holiday in Amsterdam, the capital of The Netherlands, will bring you to one of the most multicultural cities in the world. The city has about 740.000 inhabitants from 177 different nationalities. Between the gabled buildings and the houses facing the canals, there are a lot of interesting places to see during a holiday in Amsterdam.

A trip by car is not recommended. The city is easily reached by train and the Central Station is really near all the places of interest in Amsterdam. Tram, bus and metro make it really easy to travel within the city. There is also a wide range of hotels in Amsterdam.

The weather in Amsterdam is fairly changeable and you can never really be certain what the weather is going to be like. The oceanic climate here makes the winters bearable and the summers cool. Rain is a fairly normal phenomenon in this area.

There are lots of museums to visit, like the well known Van Gogh Museum and the Rijksmuseum. Anne Frank’s house is an important sight in the city. Walk away from the station down the Damrak and when you reach the Dam Square you are really near the New Church, the Palace and Madame Tussauds. The red-light district draws in a lot of tourists on holiday in Amsterdam. There you will find lots of sex shops, cinemas, bars and ladies of the night.

The best shops are to be found down the Kalverstraat, on the Damrak and down the Nieuwendijk. There’s a really nice market located on the Waterlooplein. The square boasts a view of the Zuiderkerk, the Josef Israël’s church and the Moses and Aaron church. Other famous markets are the Albert Cuijp and the Bloemenmarkt (flower market).

When on holiday in Amsterdam, visitors can enjoy a large amount of international cuisine on offer . “De Blauwe Hollander”, located in the Leidsekuisstraat, is a must for tourists.

The best places to go out in Amsterdam are located on the Leidseplein. There are lots of bars and atmospheric restaurants in the area. During the summer the square is full of outdoor cafes. Another popular area with clubs is the Rembrandtsplein. There is always somewhere to go for people enjoying a holiday in Amsterdam.
