05/06/2008 Excellent location for a holiday on the island. Very near to Funchal. Excellent bus and taxi service. The hotel spreads itself down the whole street. The rooms are spacious but the all-in deal doesn't offer enough. Not enough entertainment and the bar was too small. The food was OK but it got a bit samey. I can recommend touring the island by car (car rental next to the hotel.)

03/06/2008 Furnishings in the apartment were basic and we didn't have a TV or a Radio. We also didn't have any comfortable chairs to sit on. The apartment offers just the basics and is located on a busy road with lots of traffic.

01/06/2008 We spent a week in Dom Pedro. It's a large hotel that is quite spread out. You might get a room that is a five minute walk from the main building. The breakfast was nice and the dinner buffet was nice too. This is an amazing island. We rented a car and I can recommend doing that. There was live music every night.

25/08/2007 The food was good, drinks were included. The hotel was old-fashioned though. The bathroom stank on several days. This hotel wasn't worth the 3 stars!!!

02/08/2007 We visited the hotel with our family. The hotelrooms were clean and maintained well, but the rooms could have used some renovation though (paint). The rooms had a complete interior, with a TV. We were bothered a lot by the dogs in the neighbourhood. Nice view from the balcony and very close to the outdoor pool (if you stayed in block 5 or 6). The indoor pool was fantastic. The food was good, but there wasn't much variation. There were some good and cheap restaurants opposite the hotel. There was a lot to see on Madeira. Be sure to rend a car, the excursions were quite expensive, so a rental car will be worth it. The roads were good! I recommend this hotel and this island.

20/07/2007 We stayed there in June 2007. A perfect operating base for exploring the island. The hotel was a bit old-fashioned, but the rooms were big and clean. The food was nice, but didn't have much variation. The service was quick and friendly. The airport was a 15 minutes drive. A bus stop in front of the hotel, to go to Funchal or Canico. For other trips you could better rend a car (30 euros/day). Madeira was beautiful, but also very steep (not a place suitable for cycling). There wasn't much to do in the hotel. Some local singers for the entertainment. On Friday some nice folklore. I recommend to explore the whole island. Not a very good place for children. A good price-quality ratio.

02/09/2007 The hotelroom was neat. The rooms got cleaned if we asked for it; you had to hang a green or a red card on the doorhandle. If you wanted to clean the towels, you could leave those in the bath. Very good. Cleaning women wouldn't enter your room then, when you were still in bed. To bad there wasn't any airco present in our hotelroom. The breakfast was good and had a lot of variation. The personnel would clean your table the moment you stepped away from it, and it got taken by other guests. So a quick toilet-break was out of the question. They should do the same as with the rooms (with the green and red cards). We once had dinner in the hotel, it was good and it had a lot of variation. Other evenings we ate at other places.

12/08/2007 We stayed in an apartment for 14 days. Cosy and very clean. Too bad they didn't have a coffee machine in the kitchen. No TV or radio. Very nice surroundings. Very great place for people who loves to stroll.

28/06/2007 The rooms had a side-terrace, very noisy. A stench in our bathroom and in the evening a pool of water was lying on the floor in front of the toilet and the bidet. We received another room and that one was okay. The breakfast was okay, but didn't have any variation. The dinner was very nice, but very limited. The lounge chairs at the pool were almost all broken. The pool got maintained well though. No parasols though. The indoor pool was okay too. The bus stop was in front of the hotel, 1.50 Euros. I recommend renting a car at Avis.

19/05/2007 In May I stayed at Dom Pedro. There were a lot of old British guests. It consisted of 6 buildings. Number 6 had the highest position. It had the biggest and sunniest rooms. No fridge or airco there. The other apartments were dark and really needed some renovation. They were already renovating the hotel, at the time I was there. A nice pool, although all lounge chairs were broken. Friendly personnel. The bus to Funchal stopped in front of apartment. The dogs in the neighbourhood were very noisy. We booked bed and breakfast. It was okay, although it didn't have much variation. Nice fish though. The weather wasn't that great, cold and cloudy. The island was lovely, but there wasn't much to do. We couldn't see all of the scenery, because of the fog in the mountains.
