A holiday in Bangkok brings you to the eastern bank of the Menam River in Thailand. It is the largest city in the country, housing more than 8.1 million inhabitants. It borders on six other provinces and is therefore an excellent base for exploring the country. The skyline is full of skyscrapers and there are lots of shops, colourful markets and amazing temples to explore while on holiday in Bangkok.
The traffic in the city can be really chaotic. This is one of the reasons why public transport here is excellent. You can take the Skytrain to get to your destination. Taxis are an excellent way for tripping around Bangkok as well. For those who want to use the river as a form of transportation the express boat service on the Chao Phraya river is an excellent way to explore.
The weather in Bangkok is normally nice, with temperatures that never seem to get much lower than 32 degrees. The rainy season starts in August and ends in October.
There are lots of temples in the city. The Grand Palace complex which also houses the Wat Phra Kaew and the Emerald Buddha is one of city’s best preserved treasures. The Wat Arun is a temple complex which encompasses numerous temples, a pagoda and a mondop.
When on holiday in Bangkok, the parks offer an amazing place to come and relax when the hustle and bustle of the city become overwhelming. The Asnitphap Park, the Chatuchak Park, the King Rama 9 Royal Park and the Lumphini Park are just a couple of examples.
There are also plenty of museums. The National Museum, the Suan Pakkard Palace and the Vimanmek Palace are just a few recommendations.
A trip through Bangkok is a shopper’s paradise. The shops here tend to be opened daily between 10.00 and 22.00. The Siam Paragon and the Central World are seen as the largest and most luxurious shopping centres in South-East Asia. The Chatuchak weekend market is one of the largest and nicest markets in town. The floating market is a highlight and it is visited by millions of tourists on a yearly basis. This is the place to come and do some shopping on the water itself!
If you’re looking for food in this city you won’t have to look for long. There are lots of large restaurants but if you don’t want to miss something a bit more traditional during your holiday in Bangkok, there are some really nice stands to be found.
A night out in the city need never to be boring as the nightlife in Bangkok is fantastic. Most of the clubs can be found in the Khaosan and the Sukhumvit roads. There is pretty much to see during your holiday in Bangkok.
