Rooms are relative cheap (on the strip a little less cheap). In weekends they are more expensive.
Walk up and down on the strip; there's a lot to see 24/7. Take 2 days for that walk.
Las Vegas is best town to start your holidays if you are suffering from a jetlag; if you can't sleap, just go outside (24/7). If you ho outside bring drinks with you. It's often over 110°F/40°C!!!.
If you gamble then first ask the casino for a loyalty-card. This card provides free stuf (things/rooms/food) depending on the amount of bets you make.
Las Vegas isn't cheap any more. In the past (2002) you could buy alcoholic and nonalcoholic drinks in casino's for a buck, have breakfast for $2, lunch $3 and diner(buffet) for $5. Nowadays it's respectively $6/10/20/50+
Don't forget to visit nearby NP valley of fire : it's beautiful.
Stay out of the LV suburbs; local policies told me it's not save there.
