Let's review the hotel with minimal comments. For anyone with a small budget and wishes to be very central this is a fine place. The room's airco will keep you up so bring earplugs.
The hotel and staff don't have any ambitions; it will the same as it has been for over 30 years.
This hotel is very much below standard. I don't expect much from a 1 star hotel but I at least expect a clean room. Waste bins in the lobby are heavy with days of garbage and the first room we got was dusty and the sheets weren't fresh. A great deal of noise and the curtains don't close properly which means a lot of daylight (early in the morning). If you have a little more money to spend I would recommend another accommodation. Only plus is the central location.
My biggest objection is that the hotel and the room were very dirty. There were even mice in the room.
We spent 4 nights at Carter hotel. We had expected the worst given the reviews but it wasn't that bad. The room and the bed were clean, the shower leaked a bit, toilet was clean, towels were fresh, didn't spot any insects; we even checked under the bed and saw no dust. The location is perfect; in the middle of NY. Staff is very friendly.
I came back the day before yesterday and I must say that this hotel wasn't bad at all.
I had expected worse. The only minus was the leaking shower tap, the rest of the room looked fine.
2 Large king-size beds (rare in NY) which were clean. The floor and the bathroom were also clean. The staff was friendly but not helpful, you had to take care of everything whereas that's actually their job. The location was just perfect, you just walk down the street and you find yourself in the middle of Times Square!
It's recommendable for people who don't spend much time in their room (which is something you don't do in NY) and want a cheap stay in NY.
A poor hotel! I've been to a whole lot of hotels, but this one was the poorest. I didn't expect much, but this was worse. A filthy bathroom. A filthy bathtub. The floor was dirty. The beds were clean, but they didn't give clean bedding for three days. The tv didn't work properly. The ceiling was coming down. They didn't clean in three days. We asked for some clean towels and they didn't even give them. A nice location, but that's it.
A lovely hotel. Not very luxurious. You only need the room to get some sleep, New York is beautiful. A bed and a shower will do. A central location. Perfect! The day before we left a woman got murdered on the sixth floor. They caught the killer. We didn't get much sleep though.
A poor reception. A poor room. Only the bed and the shower were ok. We didn't need anything else, so it was ok. We had to pay 2 dollar per suitcase to store them safely at the reception. Close to Times Square and 42nd street subway station. What else do you need?
